Nicholas Mwere was an instrumental figure as Uganda Sand Cranes booked the ticket to this year’s Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations.
The lethal forward scored four of the nine goals as Uganda eliminated Comoros 9-5 on aggregate.
He scored once on his debut away to Comoros as Uganda won 5-2 before bagging a hat trick in the return leg at FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Mwere is optimistic about having the same scoring spree ahead of the next engagements that include the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship and the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations in South Africa and Mozambique respectively.
“I first want to thank God that enabled us to return to camp in good health and the preparations are going well. I am delighted that my performance in the previous games was excellent and looking forward to even do better in the next engagements,” he stated.
The lanky player indicates he is looking forward to the upcoming tournament and hopes the Sand Cranes will do well with the focus put on advancing to the World Cup.
“Our momentum is high at the momentum and we want to keep the same going into the next tournaments. At the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations last time, Uganda played up to the semifinals, I believe we can do better and reach the final which will give us the chance to qualify for the World Cup.” He added.
The Sand Cranes will use the HOLLYWOODBETS COSAFA Beach Soccer Championship that will be played from 25th September to 1st October in Durban, South Africa.
After the aforementioned Championship, the team will shift focus to the Africa Beach Soccer Cup of Nations that will be played in Mozambique next month.
