Museveni Warns Criminals: You Will Not Escape, We Shall Get You

President Museveni has promised that security forces would hunt down and arrest criminals who assassinated Bukwo District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) Charles Robert Ogwal and attacked police officers at Luweero checkpoint.

“First of all, I want to talk a little bit about crime. We continue to get some crimes but these criminals are not very clever. Because they should know that we shall get them, inevitably,” said Museveni while addressing the nation on Wednesday night at State Lodge Nakasero.

He said this is because the capacity of the police has gone up.

“Although there are still some gaps and some weaknesses but there is no way you will do bad things, and you think we shall not know you,” he noted.

The president gave an example of those who killed Kamwokya Central Division councillor, James Kakooza, saying that in no time, the police got suspects and they have arrested them already.

“Another one who was apparently one of the big suspects and had been notorious for robbing people. The police went to get him somewhere he tried to escape and he was killed. So that one is accounted for already.”

Museveni said that the ones who killed the CAO from Bukwo will be arrested too because the police already have the types of guns that were used.

“They were used in past times, especially the robbery in Nansana, some years ago. So really, my advice to those who think they can commit a crime is…stop, you will not escape – we shall get you.”

He added: “There is no way you can do bad things and get away with it and think we shall not know you.”

Museveni said security forces are now tracking down the suspects who murdered a police officer in Luweero and injured another.

“The other day there were some panga groups that attacked police officers in Luweero. Police sniffer dogs tracked them up to where they boarded their car. We are now looking for that car.”

He added: “Where we are now, there is no way you can commit such a crime and think we shall not get you. We shall get you as we have done with ADF rebels. We have killed so many of them.”

Museveni said in the past, courts used to carelessly give bail.

“I must thank the magistrates and judges who have stopped giving bail carelessly,” he noted.

His remarks come at a time MPs Muhammad Ssegirinya and Allan Ssewanyana have been on remand for nearly a year over the spate of killings in Greater Masaka.
