Kampala — Thousands of Ugandans gathered at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds on Friday for the “Yoga Yoga Jajja” celebration, honouring President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s re-election in the January 2026 general polls, where he secured 7,946,772 votes (71.65%) according to the Independent Electoral Commission.
Speaking at the event alongside First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, President Museveni thanked supporters and called on citizens to focus on wealth creation, national unity, and accountability.

“You have heard of our sister Aminah Mukalazi. She is celebrating the political victory, but she is also reminding everybody to work and create wealth in their homes,” the President said, acknowledging the efforts of Ms Aminah Mukalazi, Head of the State House Local Content Unit, who organised the event.
President Museveni emphasised that Uganda’s transformation depends on productive work and economic empowerment across sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, services, and ICT.

“The issue of wealth and job creation is very important. Every adult in Uganda should ensure that he or she is engaged in productive work,” he noted.
He added that poverty in some households drives young people to the streets, underscoring the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) as a tool to move more Ugandans into the money economy.

The President also called for vigilance in public programs, urging communities to monitor the implementation of government initiatives:
“Elect committees and follow up on the Parish Development Model money so that you know who has received it and how it is being used,” he said, stressing the importance of citizen oversight.

On governance, Museveni warned against corruption and the sale of government jobs: “Do not tolerate corruption… many government workers are honest, but the few corrupt ones must be exposed,” he said. He also highlighted infrastructure development, local content in national projects, and creating an investor-friendly environment as key priorities.
Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo congratulated the President on his victory and thanked Ugandans for supporting peace, security, and development. She also lauded Maama Janet Museveni for her work in the education sector.

The event featured prayers led by Pastor Robert Kayanja, thanking God for the President’s leadership and praying for national unity, food security, and progress toward East African integration.
“We pray that the Lord will grant the leaders wisdom as they work towards East African cooperation, a common market and eventual federation,” Pastor Kayanja said.

The full-day celebration combined prayers, entertainment, and public testimonies, drawing political, religious, and cultural leaders, including Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Deputy Speaker Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, ministers, MPs, and community leaders, reflecting both gratitude and confidence in Museveni’s leadership.
