President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Friday 15th November, 2024 launched the Four-Acre Model, a modern type of farming campaign in Greater Kibaale Districts.
The Greater Kibaale districts comprise Kakumiro, Kagadi, and Kibaale. The campaign is aimed at empowering farmers across the Greater Kibaale District.
This initiative seeks to extend support and best farming practices to farmers in Kakumiro, Kagadi, and Kibaale districts.
The event took place at Kikwaya Primary School playground, Kakumiro.
Launching the campaign, President Museveni urged the people of Greater Kibaale to embrace the four-acre model farming to stabilize their household incomes.
“My people in Gomba and Sembabule are doing well. Over 2,035 households are already in the money economy through commercial agriculture following my poverty alleviation program in the area,” he stated.
The President further informed the locals that he started preaching the gospel of wealth creation in the 1960s and up to now he is still doing so.
He said his guidance has helped a good number of Ugandans to create wealth, citing an example of the people in the cattle corridor who listened to his advice of embracing commercial dairy farming and are now doing well.
“The people of Greater Masaka also listened to our advice, they are growing coffee and are now doing well.”
The Prime Minister, Rt. Hon Robinah Nabbanja commended President Museveni for always guiding Ugandans on how to fight poverty through different wealth creation initiatives such as commercial agriculture.
“Even me, I started a four-acre model farm, and I will invite you one day and see what we have done,” Rt. Hon. Nabbanja noted.
“I also have 6 acres of onions, I get between Shs 300 – Shs 400 million.”
The Minister of Finance, Planning, and Economic Development, Hon. Matia Kasaija thanked the President for his initiative of preaching wealth creation through commercial agriculture to Ugandans.
“We appreciate you so much, Your Excellency,” he said.
The Minister of State for Transport, Hon. Fred Byamukama appreciated President Museveni for the visit and for launching the model which will go a long way in promoting commercial agriculture, thus helping the farmers to create wealth.
“We believe in five years to come, every sub-county will be having more than 100 Model farmers,” he said.
Earlier, the President made an extensive tour of the four-acre model farms in Kakumiro District.
The tour commenced at the Kamanyire Demonstration Farm owned by Hon. Byamukama. This farm features activities such as zero grazing, piggery, and poultry rearing.
President Museveni also took time to inspect the different components of the farm, appreciating the dedication of Hon. Byamukama to comprehensive agricultural development.
One of the highlights of this tour was the pineapple plantation, where the President symbolically harvested ripe pineapples, signaling his support for diversified fruit farming.
Additionally, he toured the innovative four-acre model irrigation scheme which is powered by solar energy.
This project is designed to assist village farmers with small plots in maintaining consistent crop yields through efficient water use.
The President then visited the farm of Ms. Namubiru Sylvia, also part of the Kamanyire farming initiative.
Located in Kikwaya village, Ms. Namubiru’s farm boasts productive coffee and banana plantations, alongside zero-grazing dairy cows and a piggery.
The event was also attended by Hon. Frank Tumwebaze, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Industry & Fisheries, Hon. Martin Mugarra Bahinduka, the State Minister for Tourism, and Members of Parliament, among others.
