SoftPower News has learnt that President Museveni will soon be declared unopposed for both the post of party presidential flag bearer and the party National Chairman by the party Electoral Commission.
The development comes after the former Makindye Member of Parliament (MP), John Ssimbwa who wanted to stand against him for the post of the National Chairman failed to return nomination forms.
President Museveni through his lawyer Edwin Karugire picked and returned nomination forms for both Presidential flag bearer and National Party Chairman on Monday 20th, 2020 and as such he paid Shs20m for the forms.
On the same day, Ssimbwa also picked nomination forms but he has since not paid the nomination fee of Shs10m yet the nomination process was closed yesterday on Wednesday 22nd, July 2020.
Ssimbwa has since complained that the party Electoral Commission refused to give him guidelines for the election of the Party Chairman and threatened to go to court once they fail him.
According to sources, the party Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr. Fredrick Tanga Odoi is set to address the media at around 11:00am in which he will be Declaring President Museveni unopposed for both positions among other announcement.
“Dr. Tanga will be addressing the press today at 11:00am, H.E YOWERI KAGUTA MUSEVENI to be declared a sole candidate for National Chairperson because Hon. Simba did not come back, More details today in the press, thanks,” communicated one of the party officials.
In another development, the State Minister for Lands, Persis Namuganza will be facing the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga for the position of the Second National Vice President (Female) for the party.
The party will go to polls for the top positions on the 7th and 8th August during the National Conference.
