Entebbe — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on Wednesday received H.E. Huang Xia, the United Nations Special Envoy of the Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region, at State House Entebbe for a high-level meeting focused on regional peace and security.
During the meeting, President Museveni and Envoy Huang Xia held in-depth discussions on key regional matters, including the security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and ongoing peacebuilding efforts across the Great Lakes Region.
The two leaders also exchanged views on the upcoming Regional Oversight Mechanism (ROM) summit, a key platform under the Peace, Security and Cooperation (PSC) Framework for the DRC and the region.

President Museveni confirmed Uganda’s readiness to host the next ROM summit, scheduled for May 2025, and noted that the exact date will be announced in due course.
The previous ROM summit was convened in Burundi and chaired by President Évariste Ndayishimiye, who currently holds the chairmanship of the Mechanism.
The May 2025 summit is expected to address a range of pressing issues affecting the Great Lakes Region, with a focus on promoting peace, fostering regional cooperation, and strengthening joint responses to security challenges.
The UN Special Envoy’s visit underscores the continued commitment of the international community to work collaboratively with regional leaders in pursuit of lasting peace and development.
