Nebbi — President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has commended the people of Nebbi District for their resilience and progress in education, health, and infrastructure, calling on them to vote for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) to sustain Uganda’s transformation towards a high-income middle status.

Speaking at a rally in Nebbi District, which he attended alongside the First Lady, Maama Janet Museveni, the President reflected on Uganda’s progress since independence and the strides made in service delivery under NRM leadership.

“I recall in 1961, I was at Ntare School, and there were many boys from West Nile. They came to Ntare School because there was not a single A-Level school in the entire Northern and Eastern Uganda,” Museveni said.

“There were only six A-Level schools in Uganda. So, when I see eight A’Level schools in Nebbi alone, as a district in West Nile, I am very happy because I know where we came from and where we are heading.”

The President noted that the government’s investment in education has yielded tangible results, with every sub-county now having access to primary and secondary schools, and many districts boasting multiple advanced-level institutions.

Turning to healthcare, Museveni highlighted government efforts to expand access to health facilities. “In terms of health, there are sixteen sub-counties, and ten of them have health centres in Nebbi; only six do not. We are committed to ensuring that the remaining six also receive facilities,” he assured.

He also praised the successful connection of West Nile to the national electricity grid, describing it as a long-awaited achievement that will unlock new opportunities for industry and households alike.

“I am glad that finally West Nile is linked to the national grid all the way to Koboko,” he said. “Electricity means jobs, value addition, and better livelihoods for our people.”

Museveni called on residents to safeguard the gains made under the NRM government by voting for the party in the upcoming elections. “I, therefore, ask the people of Nebbi to vote for the NRM to enable us to continue with our path to achieving a high-income middle status,” he urged.

Earlier in the day, President Museveni — who is also the NRM Presidential Candidate — was warmly received by thousands of supporters at Namrwodho Primary School playground, accompanied by Maama Janet Museveni.

The event was attended by senior NRM leaders, including the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, NRM Vice Chairperson for Northern Region, Hon. Hamson Obua, NRM Secretary General, Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong, ministers, flag bearers, and other local leaders.
