Uganda is in full swing preparing to host the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to kick off next month at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.
The event marks a historic chapter for Uganda’s sports calendar, positioning the country as a key destination for continental football.
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to officially launch the CHAN 2024 Uganda Chapter this Friday, July 25, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The high-level event is being organized under the stewardship of First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, who also chairs the Local Organizing Committee.
State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang emphasized the strategic importance of CHAN, calling it “a milestone in Uganda’s sports tourism journey and a critical rehearsal for the upcoming AFCON 2027, which Uganda will co-host for the first time.”

Uganda is placed in Group C, alongside Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. All matches will be played at Mandela National Stadium.
