Uganda is in full swing preparing to host the CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2024, set to kick off next month at the newly refurbished Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

The event marks a historic chapter for Uganda’s sports calendar, positioning the country as a key destination for continental football.

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to officially launch the CHAN 2024 Uganda Chapter this Friday, July 25, at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.

The high-level event is being organized under the stewardship of First Lady and Minister of Education and Sports, Maama Janet Museveni, who also chairs the Local Organizing Committee.

State Minister for Sports Peter Ogwang emphasized the strategic importance of CHAN, calling it “a milestone in Uganda’s sports tourism journey and a critical rehearsal for the upcoming AFCON 2027, which Uganda will co-host for the first time.”

CHAN 2024 – Group C Match Days at Namboole

Uganda is placed in Group C, alongside Niger, Guinea, South Africa, and Algeria. All matches will be played at Mandela National Stadium.

August 4, 2025
🕔 5:00 PM: Niger vs Guinea
🕗 8:00 PM: Uganda vs Algeria

August 8, 2025
🕔 5:00 PM: Algeria vs South Africa
🕗 8:00 PM: Guinea vs Uganda

August 11, 2025
🕔 5:00 PM: South Africa vs Guinea
🕗 8:00 PM: Uganda vs Niger

August 15, 2025
🕔 5:00 PM: Guinea vs Algeria
🕗 8:00 PM: Niger vs South Africa

August 18, 2025
🕔 5:00 PM: South Africa vs Uganda
🕗 8:00 PM: Algeria vs Niger

Knockout Phase (If Group C Teams Qualify):

Quarterfinal – August 23, 2025

A Spotlight on Namboole and the Future of Ugandan Football

The CHAN tournament — which features only home-based players from across Africa — is expected to draw regional and global attention. With Namboole now upgraded to international standards, Uganda is eager to prove its capability to host world-class sporting events.

Ugandan fans and the global football community are encouraged to follow and support the national team, the Uganda Cranes, as they take on top-tier opponents on home turf.

As excitement builds, CHAN 2024 promises not just thrilling football, but a broader celebration of Uganda’s growing influence in African sport.
