Museveni to Be Nominated as NRM Chair and Flag Bearer Today

As Uganda moves steadily toward the 2026 General Elections, President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni is expected to officially be nominated as the National Chairman of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the party’s presidential flag bearer on Saturday, July 5, at the NRM Electoral Commission offices in Kampala.

The nomination follows an intensive nationwide mobilisation effort, highlighted by Museveni’s wealth creation tours across all 18 zones of Uganda. These tours focused on evaluating and promoting the Parish Development Model (PDM), a flagship program aimed at lifting households out of poverty through localised, bottom-up economic planning.

During his countrywide engagements, President Museveni received overwhelming calls from community members and local leaders urging him to extend his leadership. Many praised his steady stewardship since 1986, attributing Uganda’s enduring peace, stability, and economic growth to his administration.

The tours served not only to popularise government programs but also to solidify grassroots support for Museveni’s continued leadership, with testimonies from farmers, teachers, youth leaders, and elders emphasising the stability and security that have underpinned development in sectors such as agriculture, health, education, and infrastructure.

In line with NRM Electoral Commission requirements, all candidates for party chairmanship and presidential flag bearer must collect at least 100 endorsement signatures from members of the National Conference across the country.

Museveni’s expected nomination is seen as a pivotal moment for the NRM, laying the foundation for a robust 2026 campaign focused on continuity, socio-economic transformation, and national unity.

With the formal nomination imminent, political observers note that the President’s re-entry into the race is poised to galvanise the party’s base, energise campaign structures, and reinforce Uganda’s current path of transformation.
