President-elect Museveni was formally presented by the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Simon Byabakama, to the Chief Justice, Flavian Zeija, who administered the oath of office before handing over the Instruments of Power to the President.

Moments after taking the oath, President Museveni proceeded to inspect the military parade for the first time as the newly sworn-in President, drawing cheers from supporters gathered at the venue.

President Museveni being sworn in at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds

Earlier, upon his arrival at Kololo Independence Grounds, President Museveni was received by senior government officials and top NRM party leaders as entertainment performances continued to excite guests waiting for the commencement of the ceremony.

Delegations from across Uganda and different countries had earlier filled the ceremonial grounds ahead of the inauguration under the theme of national unity, stability, and economic transformation.

Several African leaders attended the inauguration ceremony, underscoring Uganda’s diplomatic and regional ties. Among the Heads of State present were President Brahim Ghali of the Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic, President Taye Atske Selassie of Ethiopia, and President Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Other dignitaries who travelled to Uganda for the occasion included former Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta, Zimbabwe’s Vice President, Dr Constantino Chiwenga and the Prime Minister of Equatorial Guinea, Manuel Osa Nsue Nsua.

The visiting leaders were received at Entebbe International Airport by Ugandan ministers and senior security officials ahead of the inauguration ceremony.

President Museveni secured victory in the January 2026 presidential election with 71.65 percent of the vote, according to official results released by the Electoral Commission.

The ceremony at Kololo was also preceded by a spectacular drone show over Kampala that displayed patriotic symbols, the NRM logo, and images of President Museveni as part of celebrations leading to the inauguration.

President Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, pledged to continue focusing on economic growth, peace, regional security, and Uganda’s transition toward middle-income status during his new term in office.
