President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has revealed that he met a team of American researchers at State House Nakasero today to discuss ongoing collaboration on developing innovative treatments for cancer and diabetes using Uganda’s indigenous plants.
In a message shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the President welcomed the researchers, saying their work aligns with Uganda’s efforts to harness natural resources for modern healthcare solutions.
“Today at Nakasero, I met a team of American researchers who are collaborating with us to develop innovative treatments for cancer and diabetes derived from our plants. I welcome them,” he posted.
The engagement underscores Uganda’s growing interest in medical research partnerships that combine traditional knowledge with modern science to address pressing health challenges such as non-communicable diseases.
Cancer and diabetes are among the leading health burdens in Uganda and across Africa, with governments increasingly turning to both biomedical innovations and natural therapies to expand treatment options.
