President Museveni has met with the Confederation of African Football (CAF) President, Dr. Patrice Motsepe, who expressed willingness to uplift the game of football in the country.
Motsepe was in the country on a two-day visit.
On Friday, he had an engagement with President Museveni at State House, Nakasero.
Motsepe was in the company of FUFA President, Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, his Executive Committee and CECAFA President, Wallace Karia.
“Motsepe talked passionately about Uganda’s football talent, especially about our former goalkeeper Denis Onyango,” Museveni said after the meeting.
Museveni said Uganda is immensely talented “and we shall support this talent”.
“I was also a footballer until about 1966. I thank Mr Motsepe for his dedication to African football,” he added.
Museveni told Magogo that the government has not really supported sports “as much as we would have wanted except for providing peace”.
“We are going to improve and it will be very serious support,” he added.
The Minister of State for Sports, Hon. Hamson Obua, National Council of Sports (NCS) Chairman, Ambrose Tashobya and Secretary General, Dr. Bernard Patrick Ogwel, also attended the meeting at State House.
