President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed forces, has explained why he promoted General Muhoozi Kainerugaba to a higher rank.
On Tuesday 4, Museveni made a mini-reshuffle which saw the Commander of Operation Shujaa, Maj Gen Kayanja Muhanga, appointed as the Commander UPDF Land Forces, replacing a General Muhoozi.
General Muhanga was promoted to a Lieutenant General while Muhoozi was elevated to a four-star General from Lt General.
The reshuffle, followed tweets in which General Muhoozi threatened to capture and take over Nairobi, the capital city of the Republic of Kenya. In other tweets, he kept on referring to Kenya as “our district”.
However, in a Wednesday statement, President Museveni said despite Muhoozi’s shortcomings, there are many other positive contributions the General has made and can still make.
“Why, then, promote him to full General after these comments? This is because this mistake is one aspect where he has acted negatively as a Public officer. There are, however, many other positive contributions the General has made and can still make,” Museveni said, adding, “This is a time tested formula to discourage the negative and encourage the positive.”
Muhoozi, now a four-star General, is serving as the Special Advisor on Special Operations to President Museveni.
