President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has been officially nominated as the sole candidate for the positions of National Chairman and Presidential Flagbearer of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) ahead of the 2026 general elections.

The nomination ceremony, held at the NRM Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala, was marked by colour, celebration, and high-level attendance.

First Lady Maama Janet Museveni accompanied the President and was present as the nomination was formally sealed.

Also in attendance were senior party leaders, cabinet ministers, Members of Parliament, and a sea of enthusiastic supporters who gathered to witness the historic moment.

Museveni, who has led Uganda since 1986, is now poised to extend his rule into a fifth decade should he win the upcoming election.

His nomination as the unopposed candidate cements his hold over the ruling party, which has consistently backed him as its standard-bearer.

The 2026 elections are expected to feature another showdown between Museveni and opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, also known as Bobi Wine, whom the President defeated in the 2021 polls.
