Museveni Congratulates Ruto Upon Election as Kenya’s 5th President

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has congratulated the newly elected president of Kenya, William Ruto.

“On behalf of all Ugandans, I congratulate Your Excellency William Ruto upon your election as the 5th President of the Republic of Kenya,” Museveni said in a Tuesday Morning Tweet.

Adding, “Further to my telephone call last night upon your victory, I wish to reassure you of Uganda’s commitment to continue partnering with Kenya in advancing regional and continental agenda through the East African Community, African Union and other multilateral platforms.”

The President noted that Uganda and Kenya’s bilateral cooperation will score tremendous achievements, “and I look forward to working more closely with you.
God bless Kenya. God bless East Africa.”

On Tuesday last week, Kenya held national elections. Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), chairperson Wefula Chebukati yesterday declared Ruto as the 5th President of Kenya.

This after Ruto received the needed 50 percent of the national vote plus one, and at least 25 percent of the vote from 24 of 47 counties.

According to Chebukati, Ruto garnered 7,176,141 votes (50.49% ), beating Raila Odinga who came second with 6,942,930 votes. (48.85%)

David Mwaure managed 31987 votes (0.23%) while George Wajackoyah  got 61969 votes (0.44%).

Others that have congratulated Ruto include, Burundi’s Evaristo Ndayishimiye.

“My heartfelt congratulations to the President-elect @WilliamsRuto and the people of the Republic of Kenya for holding free, fair and peaceful elections. We urge all the parties to preserve peace, and disputes be resolved by existing competent legal mechanisms. Idumu jumuiya yetu!,” he wrote.

Tanzania’s Samia Suluhu said “I congratulate the people of Kenya on their peaceful general election and the subsequent announcement of Dr @WilliamsRuto as President-elect. We look forward to continue working together with our brothers and sisters in Kenya to strengthen our historically close ties. Tuko pamoja”

Nigeria’s President Muhammadi Buhari in his congratulatory message said, “I congratulate the President-Elect of Kenya, William Ruto, on his victory in the August 9, 2022 general elections. I wish him a successful inauguration and tenure in office, while also looking forward to more fruitful and robust engagements between Nigeria and Kenya.”

Adding, “Nigeria values Kenya as a strategic partner in the fight against terrorism and violence extremism. Between us, lies a long history of friendship, economic and trade ties, and effective collaboration through various international organisations.”

Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in his congratulatory message also said, “I offer my sincere congratulations to President-elect H.E @WilliamsRuto on becoming Kenya’s 5th President. My best wishes to you as you begin your tenure at @StateHouseKenya. I look forward to closely working with you to advance our partnership in all areas of mutual benefit.”
