President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has praised the Nyekundire Group in Kanungu District for their unwavering support of the National Resistance Movement (NRM), despite attempts to divide the party.
“I want to thank the founders of Nyekundire Group for standing firm and supporting the NRM, even when some people attempted to split the party,” President Museveni said while meeting the group at Kanungu District headquarters.

Comprising men, women, and youth from Kinkizi East and West, the Nyekundire Group actively mobilises support for President Museveni and the NRM government. The President lauded their steadfast loyalty and credited them for defending the party’s unity.
President Museveni pledged UGX 500 million for their SACCO to bolster their efforts. He also committed to providing a hatchery and a brooder to boost poultry farming within the group. Additionally, he assured residents of improved road infrastructure, highlighting key projects such as the Kanyantorongo and Bwindi-Kisoro roads.

Mzee Donald Kananura, Chairman of the Nyekundire Group, expressed gratitude to the President for honouring their invitation and acknowledged the government’s progress in road construction across Kanungu District.
He reaffirmed the group’s unwavering support for President Museveni’s leadership.

Hon. Patience Kinshaba Nkunda, the Woman Member of Parliament for Kanungu District, emphasised the contributions of Nyekundire women’s groups in mobilisation efforts.
She appealed for further support to empower them and requested the establishment of a technical institute to equip women with vocational skills.

Meanwhile, the Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Hon. Chris Baryomunsi, commended the President for establishing a skilling hub in the Kigezi Sub-region and urged him to set up another hub in Kanungu District to enhance local capacity-building.
The event was attended by the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, Members of Parliament, Resident District Commissioners (RDCs), and religious leaders.
