Kampala, Uganda – January 7, 2025: The National Resistance Movement (NRM) Chairman and President of Uganda, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has urged all NRM leaders and supporters to actively participate in the voter register verification exercise organised by the National Electoral Commission (NEC).
The exercise, which runs from January 7 to January 10, 2025, marks the first step in the roadmap for the 2026 general elections.
In a message addressed to NRM leaders at all levels, Museveni extended New Year greetings and condolences to families who lost loved ones in 2024.
He emphasised the importance of ensuring accurate voter registers to facilitate free and fair elections for presidential, parliamentary, and local government positions.
“The registered voters’ names will be displayed at every polling station in Uganda. Let us all check to ensure our names and those of others in our areas are on the register,” Museveni stated.
He also called for the removal of deceased individuals from the registers and encouraged the registration of youth who have turned 18.
The President highlighted the need for collaboration among NRM leaders and supporters to support the NEC’s efforts in maintaining accurate electoral records.
“I appeal to you to check and update the registers by removing the dead and adding new voters,” he added.
The 2026 general elections are expected to be pivotal for Uganda’s democratic process. This verification exercise sets the foundation for a transparent electoral process, and Museveni’s call is seen as a move to ensure robust voter participation.
He urged NRM leaders and citizens to visit polling stations during the specified period to verify and update their details.
