President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has issued a strong warning against sectarianism, stating that any leader or individual promoting division should be arrested.
Speaking in the Kigezi sub-region while assessing the performance of the Parish Development Model (PDM), Museveni emphasised the importance of unity over tribal affiliations.
Drawing from his personal experiences, he recounted how a Muganda businessman who purchased cattle from his family played a role in funding his education, underscoring the interdependence of communities.

“Politics is about helping people, not sectarianism. What matters is the market for each other’s businesses, not tribes,” he stated, adding that no single tribe in Uganda constitutes more than 20% of the population, making national unity essential for progress.
The President also announced a potential increase in Parish Development Model (PDM) funding from UGX 100 million to UGX 200 million, contingent on the effective utilisation of the initial funds.

While the original allocation was focused on supporting coffee plantations, Museveni clarified that the funds could also be used for other income-generating activities such as pig farming and poultry.
He stressed the government’s commitment to monitoring the program’s success before further adjustments are made.

Additionally, Museveni addressed concerns regarding land ownership, assuring the public that PDM funds are not limited to landowners.
He highlighted cases where beneficiaries have successfully used the funds to lease land for farming, demonstrating the programme’s inclusivity and flexibility.
