The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has announced that he will not contest for any leadership position in the 2026 General elections.
Through his official X account, Muhoozi said, “I would like to announce that I will not be on the ballot paper in 2026. Almighty God told me to focus on His Army first.”
Muhoozi, also Chairman of the Patriotic League of Uganda, ‘a civic organization’ added, “So, I fully endorse President Yoweri Museveni in the next elections.”
He revealed “For me NOTHING on this earth is more Holier than UPDF! So, I cannot think of a greater honour than being in UPDF. It is Holy Ground!! Godbless Holy UPDF and Sacred Uganda forever!!!”
Muhoozi who previously announced that he would take up the mantle for Presidency, has also directed: “All my millions of supporters. All the supporters of PLU,” to support President Museveni in the 2026 General Elections.
“We shall all of us, as one man and without exception support President Museveni in 2026. The future belongs to our mighty God alone, and we shall triumph in His name,” he noted.
In another veiled message, Muhoozi said ,”No civilian will lead Uganda after President Museveni. The security forces will not allow it. The next leader will be a soldier or policeman.”
He likened president Museveni to Jesus Christ and General Salim Saleh (Muhoozi’s uncle and Museveni’s Young brother) to saint peter, saying, “In our faith, the faith of NRA/UPDF, if Mzee is Jesus Christ then Afande Saleh is Saint Peter. He who has the ‘Keys to the Kingdom of Heaven’. The rest of us are jobless apostles looking for positions in the afterlife. ‘Naheza ebyangye’ (I conclude).
Muhoozi further took a jibe at foreign journalists whom he accused of wanting to enslave Uganda.
“Now some ‘low-life’ foreign journalists are going to write op-eds in their Western papers saying ‘Museveni’s Son a Threat to Ugandan Democracy’. Egged on no doubt by internal and foreign enemies who want to enslave our country again,” he said.
Adding, “When we were fighting for Ugandan freedom in Teso, Lango, Bundibugyo, Garamba, Mogadishu, Juba and Bor, those ‘fake lovers’ of Uganda were nowhere to be seen. Back then, for them, it wouldn’t have mattered if our impoverished country was destroyed forever. Now they perceive that there is profit to be made from our now prosperous nation. Fellow Ugandans, resisting the imperialists is a patriotic duty!”
