MPs sitting on the Parliamentary committee for health have asked the in-charge of Sembabule Health Centre IV, Dr Bernard Kakeeto to resign his position for running down the facility. He was put on the spot for mismanaging the health facility and failing at his supervisory role, leaving patients with no access to health services.
Dr Kakeeto has been asked by MPs sitting on the Health Committee of Parliament to resign before he is pushed out of office due to the high levels of incompetence that he has exhibited.
The anger expressed by the legislators follows a visit made by committee members last week to investigate the health status in Nakaseke district. On the visit, Dr Kakeeto was not on duty and the health facility was found to be in a deplorable state.
MPs noted that the facility looked nearly abandoned due to its bushy surroundings with no evidence of staff supervision and poor sanitation and poor waste management.
They further found the theatre in a dysfunctional state as there were no surgeries carried out even with the available equipment and that nurses were soliciting money from patients.
A team from Nakaseke district administration comprising of the district Chairman, Ignatius Koomu Kiwanuka, the CAO Ntabazi Edith, District Health Officer, Dr Badru Sesimba which was appearing before the Committee on Wednesday also faulted Dr Kaketo for failing on his responsibilities of supervision.
“We learnt of all these issues and actually at my level, we have already initiated disciplinary action on Dr Kakeeto. Your visit also forms more of the evidence, we are building his file and he has received several of my letters,” the CAO noted.
Although Kakeeto admitted some of the accusations, he shifted part of the blame to Edith Ntabazi the CAO whom he accused of over staying some workers at the facility which has made them uncontrollable. He further faulted government for failure to equip the theatre.
The legislators, together with the district CAO later asked for Dr Kaketo’s resignation since he takes responsibility of messing up the facility.
