The MK Movement, a group formed by supporters of the Senior Presidential Advisor in Charge of Special Operations, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has rebranded into the Patriotic League of Uganda.

Speaking at their offices in Naguru, Igara East MP and a leader in the group, Michael Maganda, said the MK Executive decided to adopt a new name and identity from MK to LPU, a civic organization.

“We hereby constitute ourselves into a civic organization and adopt a new name and identity of the Patriotic League of Uganda, in a spirit of good citizenship, national pride, national service, combating corruption and wastage of public resources, and protection of the environment,” Mawanda said.

He said the group will mobilize, empower and sensitize Ugandans while fulfilling their role in sustainable development. He explained that as a group, they are non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-sectarian.

Speaking as the Chief Guest, Captain Mike Mukula, the National Vice Chairperson of National Resistance Movement Eastern, said NRM will provide the needed guidance to the LPU.

“We have come a long way, we want only those leaders that have fought for their country and have Uganda at heart,” said Mukula.

The Minister for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries, Frank Tumwebaze, said “Patriotism is a civic duty & constitutional obligation of every citizen.  Indeed Gen Muhoozi took on his Patriotic duty from the onset after his school life when he chose soldiering as a path to serving his motherland.”

Michael Katungi, the Central Executive Committee and Head of External Affairs of the MK Movement cum LPU, said the Proclamation of the MK Movement’s evolution into the Patriotic League, transcends politics with a vision of unity and progress.

“Our vision extends beyond politics, focusing on unity, progress, and a reinvigorated commitment to the well-being of our people. This People-centered governance aims to transform Uganda into a First World Nation through a technology-driven and all-inclusive socio-economic development system,” he noted.

He added that the MK Movement ideology is deeply rooted in patriotism, democratic values, and love for Uganda.

“We commit to peace, freedom, security, social justice, equality, unity, and solidarity. This inclusive approach empowers every citizen, ensuring their access to necessities and guaranteeing their political, social, economic, and cultural rights. Emphasizing responsible resource utilization, community service, and grassroots engagement, the Movement envisions a future where every Ugandan is served, regardless of region, ethnicity, religion, gender, or societal status.”

The event was also attended by Minister of State Microfinance, Haruna Kasolo, ICT and National Guidance State Minister, Hon. Godfrey Kabbyanga Baluku, State Minister for Primary Health Margaret Muhanga, State Minister for Trade Harriet Ntabazi, Members of Parliament, LCV Chairpersons, councillors, among others.
