Minister Oryem Meets Cuban Envoy to Strengthen Relations

 The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs/International Affairs, Hon Okello Oryem, held a meeting with Ambassador Juan Humberto Macias Pino, Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of Cuba, and the two discussed bilateral issues of mutual interest between the two countries.

Ambassador Pino confirmed to the Hon. Odongo that the Republic of Cuba will participate in the upcoming NAM Ministerial Mid-term Review Summit slated for 14th-16th October,2025, at the Speke Resort Convention Centre in Munyonyo.

The two also discussed matters on the agenda of the upcoming 80th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York.

The Minister extended his deep appreciation of the role the Cuban government played towards the liberalisation of Uganda and the African continent in general, highlighting the significant assistance extended during the Apartheid regime, the Namibian war to Independence, among others.

Hon Minister further thanked the government of the Republic of Cuba for its excellent bilateral cooperation in the fields of education through offering scholarships and the health sector, in spite of the unilateral economic sanctions imposed on them by the UN and EU.
