The Minister of State for Foreign Affairs (International Affairs), Hon. Oryem Henry Okello, met with H.E. Amokrane Mourad, Ambassador of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria to Uganda, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters in Kampala.
Both sides commended the strong and long-standing relations between Uganda and Algeria, highlighting recent progress in trade and cooperation. Hon. Oryem welcomed Uganda’s growing exports to Algeria, including powdered milk—of which 400 tonnes have already been supplied—and coffee, with four Ugandan companies actively trading with Algerian partners.
Ambassador Mourad praised Uganda’s participation in the upcoming Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) in Algeria, where Ugandan products and innovations will be showcased through exhibitions and displays.
The meeting also noted the successful conclusion of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ Ministers of Finance. This agreement paves the way for the extension of Katakwi Hospital, with construction expected to begin in four months. The leaders further discussed the possibility of Algerian scholarships to support Ugandan students.
Both Hon. Oryem and Ambassador Mourad reaffirmed their commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation for the shared benefit of the peoples of Uganda and Algeria.
