The Minister for Health, Jane Ruth Aceng, has revealed that the country has started to experience an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases next to that faced in June 2021, when the Delta variant was prevalent.
“We have started experiencing an increase in the daily number of COVID-19 cases compared to the stable trends we observed since January 2022. This increase is similar to the rise we faced in June 2021 when the Delta variant was prevalent,” Aceng announced on her official Twitter handle.
However, she noted that as a country and ministry, they are prepared to respond and save lives than before.
“We have no indication for travel restrictions or lockdown in the current circumstances.”
“We will optimize the existing control and mitigation tools at personal and community levels,” she added.
She noted that the measures include; vaccination for all individuals, wearing of face masks at all times, especially for the vulnerable population and hand washing.
She urged Ugandans to keep safe and keep Uganda safe.
On Martyrs Day, Aceng called on Ugandans to avoid mass gatherings as these are potential super spreader events.
“The omicron variant prevalence is now low, and may be mild but causes severe disease and death for those with underlying risks.”
“As the COVID-19 situation keeps evolving, the importance and effectiveness of a booster dose vaccine becomes more relevant than ever. We need to protect those 50 years and above, those with co-morbidities and everybody. Let’s get vaccinated/boosted and consistently wear face masks.”
Recently, the Ministry relaxed most of the Covid-19 measures with the recent being the removal of the PCR requirement for inbound travelers, among others.
