Mbarara High School in Mbarara City has suspended all senior six and senior four students following a fight that ended in the looting of people’s shops.
Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson, ASP Kasasira Samson, said the territorial Police of Mbarara City on Wednesday night at 8:30pm responded to a distress call from members of the public over the misconduct of Mbarara High School students.
They had blocked the Mbarara-Bushenyi Road and were stealing merchandise from shops.
The police anti-riot rushed to the scene and dispersed the students before driving them back into the school premises where they were contained.
“This misconduct was sparked off by a fight between the S.6 and S.4 students where the S.4 students accuse the S.6 of assaulting their classmate and in retaliation, the fight started spilling over into the neighboring community,” Kasasira said.
“11 students of S.4 sustained injuries during the fight,” Kasasira revealed.
He said 10 of them have been admitted to Ruharo hospital and one student at Homily Hospital, all in Mbarara City for treatment.
“Due to the occurrence, the school administration has suspended all the S.6 and S.4 students for two weeks effective today and they have been escorted out of the school premises by security to go home,” Kasasira added.
