Masheda Foods, a fish farming enterprise based in Buyala, off Mityana Road, is transforming the country’s aquaculture industry through innovative catfish farming techniques and value-added products.
Speaking at a farm tour, Marvin Lwasa, CEO Masheda Foods said the farm Specializes in commercial catfish farming and processing.
“We deliver high-quality, sustainably farmed catfish products that cater to the growing demand for nutritious and eco-friendly food options.” He noted that the company is committed to sustainability, quality, and social responsibility.
Douglas Drake Onen, Business Development Manager, noted that they produce a diverse range of nutritious catfish products, including whole smoked fish, fish fillets, fish sausages, burger patties, and fish powder.
“The company ensures Good Hygienic Practices (GHPs) across its entire production and supply chain, guaranteeing the safety and quality of its offerings,” he said
He added, “We are dedicated to delivering the freshest, highest-quality catfish products while setting the standard for excellence in fish processing,”
On the company’s vision, Lwasa said they want to become the leading choice for consumers seeking nutritious catfish products but also set the bar for excellence in the industry.

He revealed that they have introduced innovative value-added products that cater to the evolving dietary preferences of consumers.
“The company’s product range includes ready-to-eat snacks, catfish burgers, and sausages, all crafted to balance taste and nutrition,” said Lwasa.
He added, “As consumer demands evolve, Masheda Foods continues to innovate, introducing healthier options, such as lower-fat or lower-sodium varieties, without compromising flavor.”
Sustainability and Environmental Stewardship
He noted that the company has implemented various eco-friendly initiatives, such as reducing food waste, using sustainable packaging, and adopting greener production processes to preserve Uganda’s natural resources.

“We are focused on providing high-quality food while positively impacting the environment,” Lwasa explained.
He explained that sustainability is integral to her operations, with a continuous improvement on production and packaging practices.
Social Responsibility and Community Development
Norman Kakooza, Masheda Foods Farm Manager said the company has implemented a rehabilitation program for street children, offering them a pathway out of poverty through education, vocational training, and life skills development.
He noted many of the rehabilitated individuals have become an integral part of Masheda Foods’ workforce.
The company has also empowered them to engage in hands-on work that directly benefits the environment and the economy.
The company revealed that over 200 street children have been rehabilitated and employed at the farm.
“Through a unique program, these young individuals are involved in creating swamps and constructing ponds, contributing to land reclamation and ecosystem restoration,” Kakooza said
