President Yoweri Museveni has appointed Marriam Wangadya Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC).
The President announced the development on Thursday evening on Twitter.
“By the Powers given to me under Article 51(1) and (2) of the Constitution of the Republic of Uganda, I hereby, appoint Ms. Marriam Wangadya as Chairperson of the Human Rights Commission,” posted the President.
The office of the chairperson of the UHRC has been vacant since November 20, 2019 after the untimely death of its Chairperson, Meddie Kaggwa.
Dr Katebalirwe Amooti Wa Irumba has been serving as the Commission’s Chairperson in acting capacity.
Wangadya has been deputy IGG since 2013 when she was appointed by President Yoweri Museveni and approved by Parliament of Uganda.
