Mariam Ndagire Receives Lifetime Achievement Award as Uganda Film Festival Marks 10 Years

Last week, the Uganda Film Festival recognised some of the exceptional individuals in Uganda’s film industry.

The festival also marked 10 years, at the pompous event organized by the Uganda Communications Commission.

At the event, legendary actor, singer, film writer and Director, Mariam Ndagire, took the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Tracy Kababito scooped the best lead actress in Feature Film while Musa Mwamba won the Best Supporting Actor in Feature Film award.

Mukisa was named the Best Feature Film at the 2023 Uganda Film Festival.

Naiga won the award for Best Supporting Actress in a feature film, Geoffrey Kasozi won the Best Director award, Kitara Chronicles (Best Viewers Choice), Nana Kagga’s Mukisa (Best Production Design), Kafacoh by Adnan Ssenkumba (Best Song Design).

Diana Nabatanzi (Best Actress in TV Series), Isiko Abubaker & Daka Waira Emmanuel for The Passenger (Best Post-production/Editing), Hikmah Nabanja and Nakibuka of Kitara Chronicles (Best Makeup Artist), and Amon Nuwamanya for his role in Koja (Best Actor in Drama Series).

Lost (Best Animation), Agramon (Best Short Film), Henry Katongole Nathan for his role in Passenger (Best Lead Actor in Feature Film), Tracy Kababito (Best Lead Actress), Silent Scream (Best Student Film), The Passenger (Best Post Production), Tale of our Times (Best Costume Designer), Akampene (Best Documentary).

Speaking at the event, the Executive Director of Uganda Communications Commission, Eng. Irene Kaggwa, said the celebrations are not just about film actors or directors but also all stakeholders who have contributed to the growth of film in Uganda.

She added that UFF wouldn’t be without entries. “A big thank you to all film stakeholders for producing great entries over the decade of UFF.”

She noted that this year, they had 308 entries, adding, over 3000 films have been submitted to the Festival in the past 10 years.

“My appreciation goes out to our training partners over the 10 years e.g. Kampala Film School, Proline Film Academy, Airfield Institute of Design, Crossroads Animation Academy, Media Vision Academy, and Cinearts Academy. 5,052 participants trained to lead to quality & professionalism.”

At the event, guests were treated to music interludes by musicians; Irene Ntale, Jowy Landa, Jose Chameleone and Vamos 256.
