A 27-year-old man was lynched to death by angry residents in Rubanda district on Friday after he killed his father.
Jasper Turyasingura, a resident of Kibungu village, Muko subcounty in Rubanda district reportedly got into a quarrel with his father, James Turyatunga over money.
It is alleged that 53-year-old James Turyatunga recently gave away his daughter for marriage but his son wanted a share of the bride price. However, the father was not willing to meet the demand.
Subsequently, on Friday evening at around 3:30pm while at their home, Jasper got a hoe and hit his father dead. This is according to Police Spokesperson for Kigezi region, Elly Matte.
When the local residents learnt about the incident, they ganged against the alleged killer and lynched him to death.
“It is very unfortunate that a son decides to kill the father simply because he wanted a share of his sister’s bride price,” Kigezi region Police spokesperson said.
“This is something he could have negotiated with the father but not taking the law into his own father,” he added.
Matte advised on settling differences amicably rather than breaking the law.
He said that Police are investigating with hopes to identify those who were involved in the mob action that resulted into Jasper’s death.
