President Museveni and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces has promoted Maj Gen Sam Okiding to the rank of Lieutenant General.
The president further appointed him Force Commander of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS).
“The Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs and UPDF fraternity congratulate the General Officer upon his well-deserved promotion and appointment,” said Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.
“We wish him all the best in his new assignments,” he added.
Prior, Okiding Commanded a UPDF Contingent in Somalia to battle al-Shabaab militants.
He served as the Commander Field Artillery Division in Masindi and the Deputy Commander of Land Forces.
