Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu has been appointed the new Defence deputy spokesperson replacing Col Deo Akiiki who was appointed in the position in March 2017 but will now head to Senior Command and Staff College Kimaka for further training.
The development has been confirmed by the Defence Spokesperson, Brig Gen Flavia Byekwaso.
Lt Col Kakurungu isna military publicist with experience spanning several years. He has handled UPDF media relations for a long time as a spokesman of several Divisions across the country including the second Division.
He came into limelight at the peak of the UPDF operations in the Rwenzururu Kingdom to stop what the force termed as anarchy by the Kingdom’s royal guards in 2016. He regularly engaged the public through the media on latest developments.
He explained that the Kingdom’s militants had attacked police posts in the area among other acts which he said the state had to stop.
Contacted by this news website, Col Akiiki thanked the army leadership for giving him an opportunity to further his military career, and asked media and the public to accord his successor cooperation.
“I thank the UPDF Leadership for nominating me to go and further my studies and military career at the Senior Command and Staff College. I welcome Lt Col Ronald Kakurungu to take charge of the office of the Deputy spokesperson of the ministry and UPDF,” he said.
