Lawyer Isaac Ssemakadde known as ‘Legal Rebel’ is the new Uganda Law Society (ULS) President.
In a high-stakes contest and election conducted during the ULS Annual General Meeting at Speke Resort Munyonyo, Ssemakadde polled 2,101 votes while Isaac Atukunda managed 898 votes.
Ssemakadde will be taking over from Bernard Oundo who completed his second term.
Delivering his acceptance speech, he said, “I am deeply humbled and honoured by the trust you have placed in me by electing me as your president.”
Ssemakade noted, “This victory belongs to all of us- each member who believes in the strength of our collective voice, the power of justice, and the importance of unity in our legal fraternity.”
He committed to serving with integrity, transparency, and unwavering dedication.
“Together, we will continue to advance the values that define us: upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and ensuring that our society remains inclusive and progressive. This is not just a victory for me; it is a victory for every lawyer in Uganda who seeks a brighter future for our profession and our country.”
He further promised to work with all lawyers and listen to their concerns, “turning our shared vision into tangible progress.”
Ssemakadde added, “upholding the rule of law, protecting human rights, and ensuring that our society remains inclusive and progressive.”
He emphasised: “This is not just a victory for me; it is a victory for every lawyer in Uganda who seeks a brighter future for our profession and our country.”
