The Chairman of the old students association of St. Joseph’s College Layibi, Charles Odoch has revealed that the new computer laboratory at the school will named after former Speaker, Jacob Oulanyah.

Odoch made this revelation while addressing mourners at the home of the former speaker in Muyenga.

He said that this is because of the love he had for the school and the generous contributions he made.

“We are building an e-Computer lab to help especially now where lessons on zoom are the order of the day. In honour for his love and support for the school, we shall see to it that we name the lab after him,” he said.

He added that Oulanyah was very exemplary in all he did.

“When Oulanyah joined St. Joseph’s College, Layibi, he joined as a very brilliant child and immediately joined the debating/ English club in senior one and this wasn’t usual for a ‘newbie’ to join such clubs, especially coming from a local school in the North,” he said.

Odoch said that Oulanyah joined the old students group and continued to support the school and its projects.

“He paid upfront for 10 years. He worked tirelessly to see that the college’s performance improves from being in the 400th position to being 64th last year,” he said.

Lady Justice Florence Nakachwa Owiny-Dollo, an old girl of Secret Heart Girls’ school, ‘which was a sister school of St. Joseph Layibi said that Oulanyah did well and his love for bowties goes way back from university days.

“I only met him at the Law Development Centre while I was teaching them and I was very tough with them making sure they dressed right and were always smart for class and his signature look was a bowtie, that he has just kept till today,” she said.

She also said that he was a patriot and always preaching nationalism.

“He was a very close family member and on our son’s wedding, who was marrying a lady from the Rukungiri, he preached nationalism that when you get grandchildren, you can’t continue saying those people, because they become part of you,” she said.
