A planned retreat for leaders in Kyankwanzi has been suspended due to Ebola outbreak.
“The leaders’ retreat scheduled to start tomorrow (Sunday) at Kyankwanzi has been called off to prevent the spread of Ebola,” announced Presidency Minister Milly Babalanda on Saturday, October 15, 2022.
She said a new date for the retreat will be communicated subsequently.
“Inconveniences are highly regretted,” she added.
While addressing the nation on Saturday, President Museveni said the virus has hit Mubende, Kyegegwa, Kassanda, Kagadi and Bunyangabu districts.
He said even the two cases reported in Kampala were from Mubende.
Over the weekend, President Museveni was also expected to open the retreat for Cabinet and other senior government officials at Kyankwanzi National Leadership Institute.
The president said the retreat was postponed after the advice of the Ministry of Health.
“We were going to have a Cabinet retreat, government retreat actually in Kyankwanzi but the Ministry of Health people met and said no, don’t expose people,” Museveni said.
He added: “Bringing so many people together because we were going to have ministers and other people and it was going to be a big room. They said if there is going to be even a single case, it means that we are going to put the whole government under quarantine, because it would have been that there was a case of Ebola and there were 400 ministers, civil servants and others, stay here in Kyankwanzi what would happen to the government?”
