A first year student at Kampala International University (KIU) has been given an unexpected financial boost after winning a cash prize in Stanbic Bank’s ongoing Kya Double with SupaDupa campaign.

Daniella Muwanga Nantege, 20, who is pursuing course in Medicine and Surgery at the Ishaka campus, was announced as the latest winner after depositing money into her newly opened Stanbic Bank account.

She received a UGX 1.5 million cheque during a Wednesday morning ceremony at the Stanbic Mbarara branch.

On hand to celebrate with her win were Lloyd Mutyaba, Stanbic Bank’s Western Region Manager, and Hajji Ali Lwanga, the Stanbic Bank Sales Manager.

An excited Nantege told reporters she plans to shop for items to cater for her maiden semester. “I’m so grateful to Stanbic Bank and its leadership for creating such transformative campaigns like Kya Double. Now with this win, I intend to use this cash prize to buy myself a laptop, which I will use for my studies. As a girl child, I will also use some of the balance to buy my favorite skincare products because I have to take care of myself too,” she said.

Nantege previously attended Uganda Martyrs Comprehensive School Namugongo and Mount St. Mary’s Namagunga for her O-Level and A-Level studies, respectively.

Mutyaba congratulated Nantege and encouraged more Ugandans to participate in the on-going campaign because there are still plenty of prizes still on offer.

“Our campaign started in June, and we’ve been rewarding customers from July onward. This will continue until the end of the year,” Mutyaba said.

In Kasangati, Ronald Kajura, an employee of Laborex Uganda, also walked away with a UGX 5 million cash prize and plans to use some of the money to care for his elderly parents.
Kajura, who opened his account at the Kasangati branch, shared his excitement and disbelief after receiving the surprise call informing him of his win.

“Opening an account with Stanbic Bank wasn’t something I took very seriously at first. I simply wanted a safe place to save my money. I kept depositing actively on my account,” he said.

Initially he thought the call was a scam. “At the time, I was in Mbale when I received the call. I couldn’t believe it and thought they were conmen. But after I received a second call from Stanbic Bank, I was asked to visit any branch of my choice.”

Driven by curiosity, he visited Stanbic Bank Mbale, where the Branch Manager confirmed that he had indeed won UGX 5 million. Overjoyed, Kajura said he also plans to use the money for personal development.

Launched in June and running until the end of December, the campaign is set to award cash prizes totaling UGX 100 million to customers across the country. Winners are selected continuously throughout the promotion to reward loyalty and encourage adoption of digital banking services.

How to Win

Hajji Ali Lwanga said, “All Stanbic clients qualify to win, including new customers opening an account, those reactivating inactive accounts, and anyone actively depositing or transacting whether in-branch or via the bank’s digital platforms. Every participant who meets these conditions automatically qualifies for the draw.”

Lwanga added that when the machine selects an account number as a winner, Stanbic immediately doubles the amount in that account, which is the essence of Kya Double with Supa Dupa.

Over the years, Stanbic Bank has been intentional in developing products and campaigns aimed at transforming the lives of Ugandans and their businesses across all sectors.

During the release of the bank’s half-year financial results, Mumba Kenneth Kalifungwa, the Chief Executive, said the bank is currently implementing a transformative commitment under the WYF Growth Agenda to invest UGX 1 trillion in Women, Youth, and Farmers by 2028, driving inclusive economic growth.

The bank’s promotion has drawn considerable attention since its June launch, with rolling rewards continuing through year-end. Prospective customers are encouraged to visit a branch or use Stanbic’s digital channels to open or reactivate an account and begin transacting.
