Kiprotich clocked 1:03:22, edging out a competitive field in one of the region’s most challenging altitude races.

Kenya’s Edwin Kiprop Kiptoo finished second in 1:03:28, while compatriot Leonard Kipkoech Langat took third place in 1:05:49.

Kiprotich’s triumph in Mexico marks yet another milestone for Uganda’s growing reputation in global long-distance running and comes at a time when Uganda is celebrating 100 years of athletics excellence under the #ugathleticsat100 banner.

More Victories at African U-18 & U-20 Championships

Meanwhile, Uganda’s young athletics talents continue to shine at the ongoing African U-18 & U-20 Championships in Abeokuta, Nigeria.

In the U20 men’s 10,000m final, Samuel Simba Cherop stormed to gold with a commanding performance, adding to Uganda’s impressive medal haul.

In the U20 women’s 3000m final, rising star Bentalin Yeko claimed gold ahead of Ethiopia’s Trhas Gebrehiwet (silver) and Kenya’s Joyline Chepkemoi (bronze).

These victories underscore Uganda’s continued dominance in long-distance running on the continent and highlight a promising future for the next generation of athletes representing Team Uganda on the world stage.
