Kampala — Former Tanzanian President Jakaya Kikwete on Tuesday held talks with President Yoweri Museveni during a courtesy visit at State Lodge Nakasero, with discussions focusing on regional peace efforts in South Sudan.
Kikwete, who currently serves as the African Union High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, sought consultations from Museveni on the evolving situation in South Sudan and ongoing initiatives to restore stability.

The meeting centered on strengthening regional approaches to peacebuilding and encouraging dialogue among conflicting parties in South Sudan.
Speaking after the meeting, President Museveni emphasized the need for continued engagement.

“This evening at Nakasero State Lodge, I welcomed H.E. Jakaya Kikwete, AU High Representative for the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea. We discussed the situation in South Sudan and emphasised the importance of dialogue among the parties,” Museveni said.
He reaffirmed Uganda’s commitment to supporting peace efforts in the region.

“Uganda will continue supporting peace efforts as stability in South Sudan, especially in the Equatorial region where many Ugandans live, is important for regional security and prosperity,” he added.
South Sudan has faced prolonged instability despite multiple peace agreements, with regional leaders and the African Union continuing to push for inclusive dialogue and lasting solutions.
