Jinja — KCB Bank Uganda, in partnership with AFRIpads Uganda Ltd, has launched a donation drive distributing reusable sanitary pads to schoolgirls across several institutions, including Jinja Progressive Secondary School, Nile Vocational Institute, Najja St. Mary’s High School, Kyaggwe, and Ursula Special School.
The initiative is part of a broader campaign to empower vulnerable girls and promote sustainable menstrual hygiene management across Uganda.
The programme aims to combat period poverty—a major contributor to absenteeism among schoolgirls—by ensuring continued access to essential menstrual products. The donation at Ursula Special School was specifically tailored to meet the unique hygiene needs of children with special needs, underscoring KCB Bank’s belief that menstrual dignity is a fundamental right for every girl, regardless of her circumstances.

Speaking during one of the handover events, Kibuuka Stephen, Business Development Manager at KCB Foundation, reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to community empowerment: “At KCB Bank, as part of our promise For People, For Better, we believe that investing in a girl’s education and dignity has a profound impact on her life and her community. Period poverty remains a significant barrier to education for many girls in Uganda. Through our partnership with AFRIpads, we are providing sustainable solutions made locally, empowering young women to manage their periods confidently and stay in school.”
AFRIpads Uganda Ltd echoed this commitment to sustainable solutions. “The reusable pad you’ve received is designed for durability and comfort, ensuring girls can manage their periods with dignity and confidence for several years,” said Irene Kemigisa, a trainer with AFRIpads. “When girls have reliable access to hygienic products, their focus and participation in school improve dramatically. This collaboration with KCB Bank helps scale up our shared goal of promoting health, dignity, and educational equality.”

Beyond distributing pads, the initiative also included training sessions on menstrual hygiene management, equipping girls with practical knowledge on proper use and care of reusable pads.
Through this partnership, KCB Bank Uganda and AFRIpads continue to drive meaningful change—empowering girls, supporting education, and building stronger, more inclusive communities across Uganda.
