Katatumba Demands Shs 1Bn from ‘Chicken Tonight’ in Compensation for Assault

Singer Angella Katatumba has given an ultimatum of seven days to Chicken Tonight Kabalagala to compensate her a billion shillings for the alleged battering she was subjected to by the takeaway’s staffers on the morning of April 1, or else she sues them in courts.

It is alleged that Katatumba together with a Jamaican singer Kuzi K were attacked and clobbered on the fateful day when they visited Chicken tonight Kabalagala branch following their demand for better services. Angella claims that her money amounting to shs 6.2m was also stolen.

“It was something simple, we complained about a service because we deserved better, they should have at least apologised and promised better, but beating us was uncalled for,” Angella told a local publication days after the scuffle.

In a demand notice by her lawyers, Mulindwa Associates and Company Advocates, Katatumba claims that she sustained serious body injuries and has been referred abroad for further examination.

“It is within your knowledge and in the public domain that our client was battered by your company’s staff Orubrwoth Choka Rodgers, Okiror Denis and Kaddu John on the 1st day of April, 2018 during the course of their duty at ‘I Feel Like Chicken Tonight’ at Kabalagala branch and stole her money worth Shs 6,200,000,” reads part of the demand notice.

Her lawyers add that the condition of their client later deteriorated and on examination by the police surgeon, it was found that she had attained “grievous bodily harm”. This resulted into Angella’s referral to Kampala International Hospital (IHK) where she was diagnosed with post concussion syndrome and anterior Hyphema.

The singer claims that she was recommended among others for anti convulsant therapy to be reviewed monthly for two years. To meet the costs, her lawyers insist that the perpetrators and the company pay the quoted amount of money in the next seven days.

“This is therefore to demand UGX 1,000,000,000 (One Billion Uganda Shillings) in compensation and damages plus our legal fees amounting to UGX 100,000,00 (One Hundred Million Shillings) within 7 days from the date hereof,” lawyers added in the notice.

They say Angella requires to travel abroad for better management to rule out any other defects since there are more advanced options.

The three staffers of Chicken Tonight including a Manager and security guard at the Kabalagala branch were weeks ago remanded to Luzira for their alleged involvement in assaulting Angella and Kuzi K. The three face charges of assault, theft and causing grievous harm.
