Kyadondo East member of Parliament, Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, has Sunday afternoon called upon voters in Arua Municipality to rally their support behind former Terego constituency MP, Kassiano Wadri, in the upcoming by-election scheduled for Wednesday.
Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine who was accompanied by Jinja East legislator, Paul Mwiru, was speaking at Wadri’s rally in Arua. He described the former legislator as the best opposition candidate in the race, and that his win will be of paramount importance for the ‘People Power’ lawmakers in the House.
“I have come here only 48 hours to the election date, not because I didn’t like Kassiano Wadri, but I have been thinking so hard on who to support, because the elections in this area are very tricky since we have many opposition comrades in this contest,” Bobi Wine said.
“I have come to Arua because there is a war between the oppressor and the oppressed. The oppressor is Mr Museveni plus the few people around him and the majority Ugandans who are oppressed,” he added.
He said that the war to liberate Ugandans started from Kyadondo East which he represents, then to Jinja East, Rukungiri and Bugiri when they managed to kick out President Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM).
Bobi Wine went on to say that the same tactics should used in Rukungiri, Bugiri, Kyadondo East and Jinja East should be applied in Arua municipality.
He was however quick to caution the chanting crowd that they can easily lose victory if they don’t unite and support the most suitable candidate.
“We can lose this war in Arua municipality not because we are weak or we lack fighters, but because we have many of them on the front line and this will give chance for NRM to continue misrepresenting us. I am here to tell you that Kassiano Wadri is your liberator,” he added.
The musician turned politician reminded the people of Arua, that he (Kyagulanyi) and other people are on a mission to remove President Museveni from power, saying that they equally have to support them.
“It is now clear that we are on a mission to remove President Museveni from power and if this is to be achieved, the people of Arua municipality have a role to play, and they can only do this by rejecting all NRM lining and weak opposition candidates.”
Mr Wadri lost the 2016 MP elections in Terego county to NRM’s Moses Angudru, but his hopes to return to Parliament were revived when elections body announced date for the by-election.
In the race, he faces competion from the FDC candidate, Bruce Musema and NRM’s Nusura Tiperu and other 9 candidates.
The Arua municipality seat in Parliament fell vacant in June when former legislator for the constituency, MP Ibrahim Abiriga and his bodyguard Saidi Kongo Buga, were gunned down by unknown assailants allegedly traveling on a motorcycle as they approached Abiriga’s home in Kawanda, Wakiso district.
The other aspirants include include; Mr Jaffar Alekua (Jeema), Mr Kennedy Madira (DP) and Independent candidates; Kassiano Wadri, Francis Elton Nyero, Sunday Anguandia, Alfred Nyakuni, Jackson Atima, Simon Avutia, Safi Bavuga and Robert Ejiku.
President Museveni is expected in the area tomorrow Monday August 13, to solicit votes for the NRM candidate, Ms Nusura Tiperu.
