The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, has announced the extension of the initial 21-day lockdown in the two districts of Mubende and Kassanda.

In her communication over the weekend, Dr Aceng announced an extra 21 days as part of the measures to curb the spread of the Ebola virus disease.

She was addressing the nation on behalf of President Museveni.

According to Dr Aceng, this will minimise the spread of this disease within these two most affected districts and protect the rest of the country from further exposure.

She assured the nation that the government is doing everything to end the pandemic.

Last month, President Yoweri Museveni announced a 21-day lockdown in the two districts restricting movement in and out.

He also banned public and private transport but also imposed a 7 pm to 6 am curfew.

After the 21 days elapsed, Aceng said despite a drop in the number of cases, particularly in Mubende, there are still some Ebola infections from contacts in the districts.

“There is still evidence of transmission in these epicentre districts. More work still needs to be done for the districts to be completely free of Ebola,” she noted.

Since the outbreak in September, a total of 132 people have tested positive, 61 have recovered while 53 have succumbed to the disease.
