The Ntungamo Municipality MP, Gerald Karuhanga has donated 26 bicycles to the recently elected LC1 leaders in his constituency. The legislator handed over the bicyles to the Chairpersons at the municipal offices this week.
Karuhanga appealed to all village chairpersons to use the bicycles diligently to ease their transportation in their day to day activities.
“These bicycles are a tool of office and they will make it easy for them to move from one place to another as they go about their work. The elections are over. It’s now time for them to work,” Karuhanga said.
The mayor Ntungamo municipality Jacob Kafureeka hailed the area MP for the gesture assuring him of support to implement government programs.
On his part, the village chairperson for Cell 6, Gumisiriza Gordon commended the MP for considering them and challenged fellow chairpersons not to mishandle the bicycles.
“I am excited that our MP has given us tools for office. I appeal to my fellow Chairpersons to work for out people and avail services to them,” Gumisiriza said.
“Hon Karuhanga has helped us solve the challenge of mobility especially for places that would be hard for us to reach”.
Gumisiriza also urged his fellow leaders against selling the bicycles.
The chairperson of the association of the village chairpersons in Ntungamo municipality, Tinkasimire Nathan who is also chairperson of Rwencwera tasked the new chairpersons to join the association if they are to be successful in their leadership.
Meanwhile, Karuhanga delivered six tonnes of East African hybrid maize seeds to all cells outside Ntungamo municipal centre who are engaged in farming.
He asked them to embrace farming if they are to eradicate hunger and poverty at household level noting that every village was given 3,500 kilograms of maize.
He also used the same event to criticize the continued creation of new administrative units within some government sectors which he said has hampered service delivery since some budgets of local governments have been cut by a half to cater for the new districts.
