Frank Mwesigwa who has been the Commander of Kampala Metropolitan Police has been reassigned to head the tourism police in the latest changes in Uganda Police Force.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Frank Mwesigwa has been replaced by CP Moses Kabugo who has been the head of the Police Senior Command and Staff College in Bwebajja.
The reshuffle was effected by Inspector General of Police, Okoth Ochola and confirmed by Police spokesperson, SSP Emilian Kayima on Friday.
Mwesigwa has been in command of the Police in the city since July 2016 when he was moved from the Police Training School-Kabalye in Masindi where he was commander.
In his tenure, under former Police chief, Gen Kale Kayihura, Mwesigwa undertook several initiatives but was especially preoccupied with popularizing the Community Policing model within communities around Kampala.
The tourism police, a unit under Counter Terrorism was created in 2014 with an initial force of 120 officers. It has since been reinforced to over 1,000 officers who are based at safari lodges, tented camps, key hotels in Kampala and upcountry, and major tourism attractions across Uganda.
Meanwhile, ACP Lawrence Nuwabiine now replaces CP Moses Kafeero Kabugo in his previous posting.
