Kampala City Lord Mayor, Erias Lukwago, has been enumerated by a team of officials from Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) in the ongoing National Housing and Population Census 2024.
Lukwago, who just arrived in the country following a medical journey to New Delhi, India, was counted with his family members at his home in Wakaliga, Rubaga on Saturday, May 11, 2024.
In Delhi, Lukwago underwent a successful specialised Anterior Cervical Disc and Fusion surgery to remove the herniated or bulging C6-7 Disc that had bothered him for over two months with excruciating pain and tingling in the back and upper left limb.
On arrival at Entebbe Airport, he was received on arrival by Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) founding President Dr. Kizza Besigye.
“We continue to thank the Lord for his life and gift of healing,” he said while activists, staff and family flanked by a brass band gathered to celebrate his 54th birthday.
Kyabazinga enumerated
“Today marks the third day of the ongoing Census. We are here once again to encourage your participation and ensure that you are accurately accounted for. Remember to take part in the count,” UBOS said in a statement on X.
On May 11, among those counted included the Chairman of Bugisu Cooperative Union (BCU) and MP for Budadiri West in Sironko District, Mr. Nandala-Mafabi Nathan, along with his family members.
They were counted at his home village in Busamaga, Sironko District.
The Kyabazinga of Busoga, HRH William Wilberforce Kadhumbula Gabula Nadiope IV, has been officially counted.
The enumeration team, led by UBOS Deputy Executive Director Godfrey Nabongo, completed the enumeration of the Busoga King, at his Igenge palace in Jinja city.
First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of East African Affairs, Rt Hon Rebecca Kadaga, also participated in the 2024 Census.
She was enumerated by Principal Statistician Vincent Senono.
Earlier, Hoima City Mayor Brian Kaboyo was counted at his home Kijungu cell, central ward, Hoima East Division, Hoima City.
President Museveni, First Lady Janet Museveni, Vice President Jessica Alupo, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, and other political, religious and cultural leaders were among the first to be counted on Friday, May 10, the first day of the census.
On the same day, Uganda Prisons Service (UPS) spokesperson, Commissioner Frank Baine, confirmed that Uganda Prisons has 397 enumerators and 125 supervisors.
Baine, the overall supervisor of the census in Prisons, noted that they have an orderly collaborative community which has made the enumeration exercise smooth.
“There are 269 prisons, 19 regions, 77,000 inmates, 14,000 staff he confirms,” he noted, adding that the process went well.
In a recorded message, Vice President Alupo emphasised the importance of census immediately after she was counted.
She made a clarion call to the people of Uganda, specifically the people of Teso to support the census.
The enumeration will continue until May 19, 2024.
