Kabalega International Airport Conducts Successful Test Flight

Kabalega International Airport has successfully conducted a test flight. According to officials, the flight assessed its readiness for aircraft.

The airport is designed to facilitate landing and take-off for an Antonov, the biggest cargo plane.

“The airport is part of the Kabalega Industrial Park, one of our key projects in Hoima,” said Uganda National Oil Company (UNOC) on its X platform.

Hon. Fred Byamukama, the Minister of State for Works and Transport, recently held a meeting with the technical team of the Construction of the Kabalega International Airport to give direction that will fast-track the completion of works by August 2025.

“The project is progressing towards operationalizing this great infrastructure that will boost the oil and gas, agriculture, and tourism industries in the Albertine Region,” he said during an inspection tour of the project site.

He said the Airport is designed to carry some of the world’s heaviest aircraft and will be a game changer for Uganda’s export industry.

Kabalega International Airport Hoima Construction of the 1st Phase of Uganda’s second International Airport commenced in 2018 and is currently at 96.1% with an estimated completion date of 13th August 2025.

The Airport is a key piece of infrastructure that will boost not only the country’s nascent petroleum sector but also tourism and agriculture.

The project requires UGX 76,085,000,000 for the completion of the pending project activities which are part of the Operational Readiness, Activation, and Transition (ORAT).

The development of Kabaale /Hoima International Airport in Hoima, Uganda is being undertaken by SBC (Uganda) Ltd, a joint venture of SBI International Holdings AG and Colas, UK. 

The Project is financed 85% by UK Export Finance (UKEF) and 15% by Commercial Source-Standard Chartered bank. The value of the Contract is €309,100,256 of which €264,077,144 is for Construction.
