According to Bukenya, Mucunguzi emerged as the best candidate during the interviews conducted in 2023 to fill the position of Head of Public Relations of the Electoral Commission.

Bukenya revealed that a letter of appointment has been issued to Mucunguzi and he will assume office on April 1, 2024.

Bukenya has been serving as EC’s spokesperson since 2020 when Jotham Taremwa left the electoral body.

Mucunguzi previously served as the principal advisor on media relations and strategic communications to the Prime Minister and headed the Communications Department of the Office of the Prime Minister.

He was also the Communications Advisor at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London, UK and a Senior Communications Officer at World Vision.

Between 2000-2006, Mucunguzi taught news writing and reporting at Makerere University. He also reported news for the New Vision newspaper.
