On December 10 this year, celebrated Pop and RnB songstress, Juliana Kanyomozi hit a record one million (1,000,000) followers on her official Facebook page.
And to celebrate that milestone, she promised to do something unusual – reward a random individual among her Facebook followers with a whopping cash prize of Shs 1,000,000.
A day before that, Juliana had posted; “God has been good to us. Guess what, our family has grown and we are just a few more followers to hit 1 million…”
“It’s only befitting that we celebrate this. I have 1 million Uganda shillings for a lucky follower that I will randomly choose from you guys. Celebrate the 1 million Family with 1 million Ugx just for you,” she wrote.
Some may have taken this to be yet another showbiz stunt that most musicians pull, until Tuesday when Juliana Kanyomozi actually annouced the winner. Christine Nalubwama who is an agricultural extension worker and works with Mbarara District Farmers’ Association was the lucky jackpot winner.
“It’s not been easy picking one person out of all of you because I love you all. But we’ll… congratulations to Nalubwama Christine on winning the 1,000,000/=. Congratulations to us again on reaching this milestone,” Juliana posted on Tuesday.
That was after she made a surprise phone call to Nalubwama to deliver the big news.
“You are my lucky winner for the Shs 1 million. Thank you for your support. This is just a humble token of appreciation to you and for everyone who has been following me and loving me, and just being part of the page,” the singer told an extremely excited Nalubwama.
“Yeeeeeeeessss… Oh my goodness. Thank you very much,” Nalubwama screamed in reaction to the news.
She has been doing some social work to empower young girls struggling to break stigma. Part of the work has been training the girls on how to use reusable sanitary pads in Kanungu district.
So, when Juliana asked what she planned to spend the money on, her reply was “I will use that money to get a machine for sanitary pads which I have been longing to have”.
It was visibly clear that the award winning artiste was blown away by the kind of things Nalubwama was doing with her life.
“That is amazing. You are such a lovely lady. Thank you for the work you are doing. Clearly, I have given the money to the right person,” Juliana told her.
Later, Nalubwama posted on her Facebook appreciating the singer and promised to make her proud.
