Johnnie Walker recently commemorated the one-year anniversary of its She Walks program at the Kampala Serena Hotel. The event honored women leaders who have made significant strides in their personal and professional journeys, under the theme “Purposeful Strides: Scaling Hills in Heels.”
The evening brought together remarkable women leaders from diverse sectors, including business, finance, and entrepreneurship.
Rachel Ddumba, UBL Board Member, welcomed guests and reflected on the importance of creating platforms that empower and connect women.
Solome and The Band performed soulful renditions of classic ballads, setting the tone for an evening of storytelling, reflection, and visioning for the future. Guests participated in a whisky mentorship session, exploring the signature flavor notes of Johnnie Walker’s award-winning blends.
Andrew Kilonzo, Managing Director of Uganda Breweries Limited, emphasized the importance of recognizing progress and recommitting to purposeful growth.
“This evening isn’t just about reflection,” he said. “It’s about recognising how far we’ve come, and recommitting ourselves to walking forward together with purpose and pride.”

Lynda Biribonwa, Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Petroleum Authority of Uganda, delivered a powerful keynote address, reflecting on her career journey and the importance of fostering inclusive spaces for women to thrive.
“Leadership is not about fitting in, it’s about standing firmly in your purpose, even when the terrain is steep,” she said.
Christine Kyokunda, Johnnie Walker Uganda Brand Manager, reaffirmed the brand’s commitment to purpose-led progress, stating, “She Walks is a platform rooted in the belief that progress must be inclusive, intentional, and deeply personal.”

The event highlighted the importance of allyship, with progressive male leaders and captains of industry in attendance, underscoring the collective responsibility in advancing gender parity.
Since its launch in 2024, She Walks has grown from a local initiative into a movement, now adopted in other African markets. What began as a statement of support has become a platform for mentorship and momentum, helping women break ground and break barriers across industries.
