Brian Isiko, a student who was recently convicted of sending love messages to Kabarole Woman Member of Parliament, Sylivia Rwabwogo has applied for bail before High Court.
Isiko recently appealed against the sentence.
Through his lawyers led by Ramathan Waiswa, Isiko asked court to release him on bail pending hearing of his appeal.
“His plea of not guilty was changed to a plea of guilty by the Magistrate which was a great mistake,” Waiswa told court.
The lawyer argued that Isiko is still a student who needs to be released on bail so as he attends school.
“He is a young man whose education depends on the success of this application.”
The lawyers presented two sureties including Grace Reagan Muganza and Godfrey Waako arguing that Isiko is a first offender and his offences didnt include violence or threatening violence.
The state prosecutor, Gladys Nyanzi however asked court not to grant Isiko bail because he has failed to prove that he is a student.
She also argued that the two sureties have not provided clear documents showing their residences and places of work.
High Court Judge, Jane Francis Abodo adjourned the matter to Friday to deliver his ruling on the bail application.
