Barcelona, Spain — Ugandan long-distance running star Jacob Kiplimo was among the standout athletes celebrated at the 78th Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala held recently in Barcelona, Spain, where top performers from 2025 were recognised for their achievements on the global stage.
The prestigious Mundo Deportivo Grand Gala, one of Spain’s longest-running sports awards events, brought together elite athletes from multiple disciplines to mark excellence in sport. Kiplimo, acclaimed for his world-class performances in long-distance running, was highlighted alongside other international stars during the celebration of the event’s 120th anniversary.
Kiplimo’s career has been marked by remarkable achievements, including setting an extraordinary time in the half-marathon at the Barcelona Half Marathon, where he ran 56:42 — one of the fastest times ever recorded over the distance — showcasing his talent and endurance on a global platform.
Born in 2000, the Ugandan runner has also claimed medals at world competitions and represented his country at the Olympics, becoming one of Africa’s most admired long-distance athletes.
The honour in Barcelona adds to Kiplimo’s growing list of accolades and underscores his influence in athletics, inspiring fans in Uganda and across the world with his dedication and sporting excellence.
